Car Seat Basics For New/Expectant Parents:
Rear-Facing Infant Seats Only

Location: Basement Conference Room

Did you know that motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer among children ages 2 to 14, due in large part to the nonuse or improper use of child seats and seat belts? According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 96-98% of all child safety restraints riding on Texas roadways are improperly installed. Working with parents and our partners, Centennial's goal is to ensure every child is properly secured and safe every trip, every time.

This 2 hour class/fitting station is taught by Certified Car Seat Technicians and is designed to educate new or expecting parents on the best practices and importance of a properly fitted car seat. You will also participate in hands-on demonstrations of securing an infant in a car seat (substituting dolls in lieu of an actual child.) We will spend 1 hour in the classroom and allow 1 hour for car seat fitting in your vehicle.

This is an educational service NOT an installation service. Parents will put the car seat in and the technicians will educate, assist and check off seat.

Please educate yourself prior to selecting a car seat as it is required to bring your car seat into class for hands-on practice and fitting of the car seat into your vehicle. Also required to bring to class:

  • Bring a rear-facing infant/convertible car seat that is NOT beyond 6 years from the manufacture date (usually located on the base or seat of your car seat) and has NOT been involved in a motor vehicle crash OR has an unknown crash history.
  • Bring car seat user guide
  • Bring vehicle owner’s manual
  • Please also de-clutter your vehicle for easier fitting of your car seat

Car Seat Fitting Station

This is an educational service. Parents will be assisted with installation of the car seat and educated on proper securing of child.

Please bring:

  • Bring a car seat that is NOT beyond 6 years from the manufacture date (usually located on the base or seat of your car seat) and has NOT been involved in a motor vehicle crash OR has an Unknown crash history.
